Shravana (Sanskrit: श्रावण) is a significant month in the Hindu calendar, typically starting in mid to late July and ending in late August.Shravan is crucial for the Indian subcontinent because it brings the south-west monsoons, making it a key time for agriculture.

For many Hindus, this month is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Devotees fast, especially on Mondays (Shravan Somvar Vrat) and Tuesdays (Mangala Gauri Vrat), to seek spiritual growth and blessings.

  • Dashamaa Vrata: Observed on the first day of Shravan in Gujarat, dedicated to Dashama.
  • Krishna Janmashtami: Celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna on the eighth day after the full moon, especially significant for Vaishnavites.
  • Raksha Bandhan: Also known as Rakhi Purnima, this festival celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters and is observed on the full moon day.

  • Salono: In Haryana and Punjab, amulets are tied for protection against evil, alongside Raksha Bandhan celebrations.
  • Shravani Mela: A major festival at Deoghar in Jharkhand, with pilgrims carrying holy water from the Ganges.

In 2024, Shravan will begin on 22 July and end on 19 August in North India. In Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu, it will start on 5 August and end on 3 September. Notable dates include:
